UCD O'Brien Center, was a collaborative effort at RKD Architects, and I had the privilege to contribute significantly to its design during my time with the RKD team. The design's objective was to cultivate a premium space dedicated to scientific research while fostering diverse interactions between scientists, students, and the broader realms of science. This project not only extended the existing university edifice but also modernized it, aligning with the latest technological, scientific, and architectural benchmarks. The Science Centre East houses a state-of-the-art 3D visualization theatre, curated galleries, interactive exhibitions, avant-garde research labs, and collaborative spaces. It also boasts dedicated teaching areas for disciplines such as life sciences, biology, and geology. A central feature is the expansive atrium, envisaged as a communal hub, encouraging the uninhibited exchange of innovative scientific concepts. The centre's entrance, distinguished in its design, symbolizes the boundless potential of human cognition - the very foundation of all scientific endeavours.
